Healthy School Canteens

Introducing Healthy School Canteens

The introduction of the revised Healthy School Canteen Strategy increases the availability of healthy food and drink options in school canteens to make the healthy choice, the easy choice. It replaces the Fresh Tastes@School Strategy in NSW schools that was commonly known as the traffic light system. The revised strategy is consistent with the 2013 Australian Dietary Guidelines and classifies food and drinks as either Everyday or Occasional. Sugary drinks will continue not to be sold. Zyleaca delivered the Acknowledgement of Country NHS student leaders attended this year's White Ribbon breakfast at Wests Leagues Club. Our very own Mulloobibna Dance Group performed in front of the large audience and Zyleaca reminded everyone of the importance of the White Ribbon organisation and its acknowledgement of the UN's International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.... Year 9 Gardening Gang

The Gardening Gang Our year 9 Gardening Gang, in conjunction with the Horticulture group and the P&C's Gardening Group has begun work to create more garden spaces for NHS. Following the Gardening Group's directions, the gang has created areas, sorted pots and plants and spread the mulch. The team work well together and their progress has been amazing. 2017 Resource Allocation Model funding

In October 2016, all NSW public schools will receive a 2017 Planned School Budget Allocation Report. The report will assist with the management of the total budget delivered to schools through the Resource Allocation Model (RAM). The Resource Allocation Model (RAM) methodology distributes funding based on the individual needs of students and schools. This gives schools greater flexibility to make local decisions. Newcastle High Girls Rebels Rugby - Legends!

The Legendary Newcastle High Girls Rebels rugby team recently travelled to Hunter Valley Grammar. Lead by the retiring Year 12 trio of Abbie 'Boss' Smith, Kalista 'Za Weapon' Hunter and Kirra 'Smiling Assassin' Barclay, the girls went down narrowly to the locals 5 tries to 3. Our Year 11 girls - Izzy 'Little Mussolini' Cosentino, Tahne 'The Bus' Baker and Best On Ground, Brittney 'Beastmode' Robinson Schell - covered themselves in glory.
